"Rapid filtration sand" is the sand used in rapid filtration ponds employing the rapid filtration method. The particle size is specified by the effective diameter, which ranges from 0.45 to 0.70 mm, and the uniformity coefficient, which should be 1.7 or less, according to the standards set by the Japan Water Works Association. However, in general, rapid filtration sands with effective diameters of 0.5 mm and 0.6 mm are commonly used in many water purification facilities.
